Corporate strategies, environmental forces, and performance measures: a weighting decision support system using the k-nearest neighbor technique

چکیده
The choice of performance measures is critical to formulating strategies. This paper investigates the relationship among corporate strategies, environmental forces, and the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) performance measures. Corporate strategies are explored within the framework of Miles and Snow’s taxonomy, where they are categorized into prospectors, defenders, analyzers, and reactors. The relative weights for each performance measure are calculated by the use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. A sample of 219 companies can confirm the link between corporate strategies, environmental forces, and the weights of the BSC performance measures. These weights shift depending on the nature of challenges companies face. In the light of this empirical evidence, a decision support system is proposed to help retrieve the BSC weights of the companies with similar characteristics. In order to measure the proximity between companies, a k-nearest neighbor technique is employed. This system can help find the weights of the performance measures for particular strategies. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Liquid-liquid equilibrium data prediction using large margin nearest neighbor
Guanidine hydrochloride has been widely used in the initial recovery steps of active protein from the inclusion bodies in aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). The knowledge of the guanidine hydrochloride effects on the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) phase diagram behavior is still inadequate and no comprehensive theory exists for the prediction of the experimental trends. Therefore the effect the ...

The aim of this work is to examine the feasibilities of the support vector machines (SVMs) and K-nearest neighbor (K-NN) classifier methods for the classification of an aquifer in the Khuzestan Province, Iran. For this purpose, 17 groundwater quality variables including EC, TDS, turbidity, pH, total hardness, Ca, Mg, total alkalinity, sulfate, nitrate, nitrite, fluoride, phosphate, Fe, Mn, Cu, ...
متن کاملHow k-Nearest Neighbor Parameters Affect its Performance
The k-Nearest Neighbor is one of the simplest Machine Learning algorithms. Besides its simplicity, k-Nearest Neighbor is a widely used technique, being successfully applied in a large number of domains. In k-Nearest Neighbor, a database is searched for the most similar elements to a given query element, with similarity defined by a distance function. In this work, we are most interested in the ...
متن کاملExtraction of Suitable Features for Breast Cancer Detection Using Dynamic Analysis of Thermographic Images
Introduction: Thermography is a non-invasive imaging technique that can be used to diagnose breast cancer. In this study, a method was presented for the extraction of suitable features in dynamic thermographic images of breast. The extracted features can help classify thermographic images as cancerous or healthy. Method: In this descriptive-analytical study, the images were taken from the IC/UF...
